The recipe for these lovely chocolate cookies came from Taste of Home Magazine in 2019, and was submitted to the magazine by Darlene Brenden of Salem, Oregon.
I made these for the first time this past Christmas, and they were an immediate hit! Give them a try–I think your crew will like them too!

Ingredients
12 Ounces German Sweet Chocolate
2 Tablespoons Shortening
3 Large Eggs, Room Temperature
1-1/4 Cups Granulated Sugar
1 Teaspoon Vanilla Extract
1 Cup All-Purpose Flour
1/2 Teaspoon Baking Powder
1/2 Teaspoon Salt
1/2 Cup Chopped Pecans
Pecan Halves
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the chocolate and shortening, and stir until smooth. Cool and set aside.
Using your stand mixer, beat the eggs and sugar until light and lemon-colored. Beat in the cooled chocolate mixture and the vanilla.
Combine the flour, baking powder, and salt, and mix into the chocolate mixture, just until well-blended. Stir in the chopped pecans.
Drop dough by the tablespoon (I use a scoop) onto parchment-lined baking sheets, approximately 2 inches apart.
Place a pecan half in the center of each scoop of dough.
Bake 10-12 minutes, or until the cookies are set.
Let cool, and dust with confectioner’s sugar.
